Beyond The Edge Of Owlsgard is a representative of the point-and-click adventure genre. The indie project imitates PC quests from the 90s. Therefore, it has low-resolution 2D pixel graphics, hand-drawn, old-school controls and old-school gameplay. The developers were also inspired by cartoons from the end of the last century, which influenced the visual style. The character is controlled by the mouse. By default, clicks only move him around the location. There is no smart cursor here. To make the hero do something else, you need to select the appropriate action from the list of 9 verbs on the bottom panel. For example, to make the protagonist chat with an NPC, you must first click on the word «talk», and then click on the NPC. In a similar way, you have to pick up, examine and use objects, interact with interactive objects, and so on.

The project’s name translates as Beyond Oulsgard. Its action takes place in a world inhabited by humanoid animals called Velehill. One day, shadows appear there. This event is followed by mysterious disappearances of anthropomorphic animals and mysterious destruction of their villages. The hero-roe deer named Finn learns that the same fate befell his family. He goes in search of relatives. During the journey, he is joined by the owl Gwen. She will help him learn a dark secret. The plot is presented through animated cutscenes and dialogues. The finale of the story can be reached in 6-8 hours.
