The action takes place in America at the end of the 19th century, during the beginning of active settlement of the West Coast. Players will lead an expedition of 4 brave pioneers who will go on a dangerous adventure from the town of Independence, Missouri to Oregon. There is no plot as such, but the unpredictability and variability of events along the way can drag on for many hours.

When forming a starting party for The Oregon Trail, it is necessary to take into account the professions of potential travelers. Among them are bankers, farmers, adventurers, carpenters and many others. Everyone has special skills that can be useful and sometimes life-saving. But in addition to skills, they also have character traits that have no less influence. Accordingly, you should think three times before including a paranoid or lazy person in the group. Gamers influence the route by choosing the direction at the forks based on the current state of the team, which has the parameters of fatigue, hunger, hygiene and happiness. Random events will occur periodically. These will range from encounters with NPCs that open up opportunities for trade or receiving a side quest, as well as less favorable situations such as a natural disaster, an attack by wild animals, or the manifestation of serious illnesses.
